Only Watch Auction
On first look the watch will not thrill too many readers of this website, but we urge them to look again as what has been achieved is really quite stunning. The dial of the watch is quite reminiscent of the IWC 3536-03 model with the simple clean white dial and gold hands and markers with grey in-fill to match the grey of the bezel insert.

With Omega releasing the new Ploprof 1200m watch in 2009, it was almost a dead cert that the company would use it as the base for their contribution to the Only Watch 2009 auction which took place in Monaco on September 24th. This auction was conceived as a special event to raise funds for Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, under the patronage of HSH Prince Albert II of Monaco.

The irony of a vastly expensive timepiece being used as a tool dive watch isn’t lost on us at DeskDivers and we feel it’s unlikely that the 250 grams of solid 18k rose gold will ever see water. However you can be sure that if it did, it would perform admirably.

The watch is reported for have sold for 50,000 Euros on the night.
Obviously, to further prove the watch was the Only Watch Auction model, the dial has the a ‘1/1 Only Watch’ script denoting that this is piece number 1 of the set of 1. It was supplied on a white rubber strap to match the dial and also a white ceramic bezel release button.
Omega obviously decided to pull out all the stops and make their ‘Only Watch’ the purest of one offs, building it in solid gold with a white dial, a specification that would be highly unlikely to ever hit the shops. In fact even the crown, bezel and clasp are also manufactured in the same rose gold which would have meant a lot of overtime being worked at Bienne to hand make those parts.
